KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Carroll Softball team suffered two losses on Friday night to open up their Cascade Conference series at Northwest University. The Eagles won 8-3 in game one and 8-6 in game two.
The Eagles jumped on the Saints right away in the first game. In the bottom of the first inning, Northwest plated five runs to take a convincing lead.
Ellie Koerber got the Saints on the board in the top half of the third, scoring
Amber Brewer on an RBI single.
Kaitlyn Ayers would go on to single in a run in the fifth inning, and
Amber Brewer brought in another on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Three runs would not be enough to overcome the eight runs scored by the Eagles.
In the second game, it was Carroll who jumped out to the early lead. Kaitlyn Ayers hammered an RBI double that scored
Amber Brewer in the top of the first, then
Amber Countryman reached on an error that brought Ayers home. The exclamation point on the top of the first inning was a walk by
Whitney Durocher that brought
Kirsten Norris home.
Northwest tied the game back up in the bottom of the first inning, pushing across three runs.
Kirsten Norris doubled to left field in the second inning to score Alyssa Lybert, then the Saints added another run to their lead on a
Kenna Thomas RBI single that scored
Jessica Nimmo in the third.
Carroll led 5-3, but would go on to give up that lead and the Eagles didn't look bad.
The Saints will look to bounce back on Saturday with another double header at Northwest. The first of those two games will be a conference game and the second will be counted as non-conference.
