KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Carroll Softball team earned their first conference win of the season on Saturday, splitting a double-header against Northwest. The Saints won the first game 5-1, and the Eagles responded to win the second game 4-2. The second game was a non-conference game.
In the first game, Carroll struck first in the top of the second inning.
Sydnee Paul drove in
Haley Kampka on an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Ayers added to the fun in the top of the third, plating
Amber Brewer on an RBI single.
Northwest scored their lone run in the fourth inning on an RBI double, but the Saints would continue to add to their lead.
Amber Brewer kicked off a three-run sixth inning with an RBI single.
Amber Countryman scored on a double-steal by her and Brewer, then Brewer came across on an RBI double from
Ellie Koerber.
The bats woke up for Northwest in the second game as they found themselves with a 2-0 lead after the second inning.
By the top of the seventh, the Saints trailed 4-0. They put together a rally to score two runs on singles from
Layne Bauer and
Amber Brewer, but they wound up falling short 4-2.
Next weekend, Carroll will host No. 1 Oregon Tech in Helena for a Cascade Conference series on Friday and Saturday.
