CALDWELL, Idaho – The Carroll softball team fell in their first two games at No. 5 College of Idaho on Friday, dropping the first game 5-1 and the second 3-2.
Carroll found themselves in a hole early in the first game. The Yotes pushed four runs across in the bottom of the first inning, headlined by a three-run home run.
An RBI double for College of Idaho in the bottom half of the third frame extended their lead to 5-0, leaving the Saints with a tough hill to climb in the final four innings.
The Saints' bats woke up in the top of the sixth inning as
Kirsten Norris singled in
Jessica Nimmo. That would go on to be their lone run of the game, falling 5-1.
C of I struck first again the game two, scoring on an RBI groundout and an error in the second inning.
With the Yotes in a 2-0 lead, the Saints fought back in the top of the fourth inning when
Kirsten Norris stepped up to the plate and cranked a game-tying two-run shot.
Carroll's efforts fell short in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Yotes clinched the double-header sweep with a walk-off single.
The Saints and Yotes will square off again on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The game can be seen online here:
