Carroll Softball combines for 31 runs in double-header sweep of WPU

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Softball team completed a Cascade Conference sweep, winning two games over Warner Pacific on Sunday at Centennial Park. The Saints won the first game 15-7 and the second game 16-1.

WPU started off the day with a three-run home run to take an early lead in the first game.

Carroll responded in the bottom of the second by scoring eight runs. The scoring started with an RBI single from Ellie Koerber and ended with a Kaitlynn Ayers RBI groundout. Kenna Thomas, Haley Kampka, Kirsten Norris, and Jessica Nimmo all recorded RBIs in the second inning as well.

The Saints found themselves in an 11-7 lead after Warner Pacific got a rally going in the top of the fifth. However, they responded with four unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth inning to walk the game off 15-7 on the mercy rule.

The hot streak continued into the second game for Carroll. They started game two off with 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. There were plenty of hits to go around and the Saints went on to win game two by a final score of 16-1 in five innings.

Carroll will take a five-game win streak on the road next weekend for a tough test at College of Idaho. The Yotes are currently ranked second in the nation.
