HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Softball team opened their weekend with a sweep of Warner Pacific on Friday. The Saints won the first game 6-0, then won the second game 8-7 in extra innings.
Carroll got on the board in the first inning of the first game, starting with
Jessica Nimmo scoring on a throw down to second base. Shortly after that, Alyssa Lybert singled to center and brought in
Amber Brewer and
Abby Hanley to put the Saints up 3-0.
The surge continued for the Saints in the bottom of the fifth.
Amber Brewer hit a two-run shot, then Alyssa Lybert scored on a pass ball.
Abby Hanley threw seven shutout innings and the Saints took the first game 6-0.
The second game began in a very similar fashion to the first. Following a
Kirsten Norris two-RBI single, Carroll led 3-0 after three. The Saints continued to pile it on, scoring on a bunt from
Haylee Curry in the fourth before Alyssa Lybert blew the game open with a two-RBI double in the fifth.
After trailing 7-0, Warner Pacific made things interesting in the final two innings. A grand slam in the top of the seventh capped off a stretch of seven unanswered for the nights, and the game went into extra innings.
Kaitlynn Ayers crossed the plate on a throwing error that followed a drop third strike in the bottom of the eighth, and the Saints secured the sweep.
Carroll and Warner Pacific return to the diamond on Saturday, playing a double-header at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
