Saints WBB Drop 2OT Thriller at Providence, 93-92

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College Women's Basketball team lost a heart-breaking double-overtime game to The University of Providence 92-93.

A share of the Frontier Conference Championship was at stake for the Saints and Argos, who entered the game in a three-way tie with Rocky in the standings.

The first quarter saw the Argos race out of the gate to a 23-10 lead on the back of an efficient 75 percent from the field after the first quarter.

Carroll settled into the game in the second, cutting the Argo lead to 9 at the break. Senior Jaidyn Lyman was a spark off the bench and lead the charge for the Saints in the 3rd quarter, narrowing the gap to 4.

After a back-and-forth 4th quarter, which saw the lead change multiple times, Senior Dani Wagner buried a 3-pointer with seconds left on the clock to tie the game and force overtime.

The first overtime period played out much like the 4th quarter with both teams exchanging 1-point leads throughout. With Carroll down 3 with seconds left, it was Sienna Swannack who banked in a 3-point shot to tie the game and force a second overtime.

The second overtime period was yet another battle, with neither team able to gain a two-possession lead. Providence's Parker Esary made two free-throws with 1 second left on the clock to give the Argos the final lead of the game.

Carroll had five players finish with double-digit points, Dani Wagner (22) Christine Denny (10) Sienna Swannack (16) Jamie Pickens (17) and Jaidyn Lyman (14). Jamie Pickens recorded yet another double-double adding 11 rebounds to her line.

The Argos were led by Parker Esary's double-double, finishing the game with 39 points and 10 rebounds.

Carroll finishes the regular season third in the Frontier conference, Rocky will enter the playoffs as the 1-seed, with Providence holding the 2-spot.

The Fighting Saints will host MSU-Northern in a Quarterfinal game next Wednesday, in Helena at the PE Center. Tip-off will be at 7pm.
