HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Women's Basketball team earned a hard fought victory in Billings today, defeating Rocky Mountain College 55-45.
A share of the Frontier Conference lead was at stake in a high-powered matchup between the conference's two highest ranked teams. The 7th ranked Saints managed to hold off the 15th ranked Battlin' Bears for the first time this season.
Saturday's contest proved to be another low-scoring bout between the two schools, as the case the last time the schools met. Carroll carried a 3 point lead after the 1st quarter, 14-11, and managed to extend that lead to seven at the halftime break, 28-21. Rocky made an effort to flip the script, shaving the lead down to just 6 points after the 3rd quarter, but Carroll stayed the course and finished the game strong.
The Saints were paced by
Christine Denny and
Jamie Pickens who both recorded a team-high 15 points. Pickens finished the game with an impressive double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her stat line. Senior Dani Wagner also scored 11 points to round out the Saints double-digit scorers.
Rocky's N'dea Flye had another strong game leading the Bears with 16 points, while Gracee Lekvold added 10 points of her own.
The Saints now turn their attention to Providence, who they will face in the final game of the season this Thursday in Great Falls, with postseason seeding on the line.
