HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Women's Basketball team earned yet another win on Thursday night, defeating Montana Tech 76-59 at the PE Center.
Montana Tech gave the seventh-ranked Saints about all they could ask for early on in the ball game. After one quarter of play, the Orediggers led 19-16.
The Saints outscored Tech 18-14 in the second quarter and were able to take a 34-33 lead heading into the half time break.
Carroll opened the second half on an 8-2 run and from there they separated themselves all throughout the second half. The Saints played hard on the defensive end of the floor, getting the Orediggers' offense out of sorts.
Offensively, the Saints were selfless. They finished the game with 24 assists as a team on 32. Five Carroll players finished with eight or more points.
The leading scorer for the Saints was
Kamden Hilborn, who scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and added five assists.
Jamie Pickens finished with 14 points, all of which came in the second half.
Maddie Geritz added 13 points off the bench.
Montana Tech was led by Tavia Rooney who finished with a game-high 20 points to go with her seven rebounds.
Following Thursday's victory, the Saints are 22-5 on the season and 10-3 in conference. They remain tied with No. 19 Providence in second place. No. 15 Rocky Mountain College is still alone in first place.
Carroll will face off with Rocky on Saturday in Billings and Providence next Thursday in Great Falls, both allowing the Saints a chance to make up some ground in the standings before the conference playoffs.
