GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Carroll Softball team will head down to Arizona to open their season this weekend against Arizona Christian, Park University, and Benedictine University Mesa.
The Saints will play three double-headers in three days, starting on Friday afternoon against Arizona Christian. They will face Park on Saturday and Benedictine on Sunday. The games will begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. each day.
Moe Boyle will be serving as the interim head softball coach this season, following the resigning of Brian Bessette in January.
The Saints return a large part of their core from last season as they head into the eighth year of the program.
Key returners include
Jessica Nimmo,
Kaitlynn Ayers and
Amber Brewer. Last season, Nimmo and Ayers received all-conference recognition from the Cascade Collegiate Conference, and Nimmo was also an all-region selection by the AFCA.
Abby Hanley returns as the Saints' top pitcher after leading the team in innings pitched last season with 156.2. She started 22 games in the circle last year.
Last season, the Saints posted a final record of 16-30 with a conference record of 10-18. Three of those 16 wins came against Southern Oregon, Oregon Tech, and College of Idaho who finished first, second, and third respectively at last year's NAIA Softball World Series.
