GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Carroll Softball team opened the season with two losses at Arizona Christian on Friday afternoon.
In the first game against the Firestorm, both teams struggled to push runs across the plate in the early going. Arizona Christian scored one in the bottom of the first inning, but after that the bats went quiet.
Through the next four frames, the 1-0 lead for ACU held.
The Saints got a runner into scoring position in the top of the fifth inning, but left her stranded after making the final out.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Arizona Christian's bats woke up in dramatic fashion. The Firestorm put up a seven spot in the sixth to extend their lead to 8-0 and clinch the win by way of the mercy rule.
In the second game, ACU picked up right where they left off and got the bats going early. Three runs in both the first and second inning put the Firestorm up 6-0 and the Saints were unable to catch up from there.
Arizona Christian went on to win the second game 16-1 in five innings securing the double-header sweep.
