Tallahassee, Fla. – The NAIA National Cross Country Championships will take place at Apalachee Park in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday November 18.
Carroll's men and women each won the Frontier Conference Championship last week earning automatic bids to the National Meet. The women are currently 19
th in the ratings and placed 16
th last year at Nationals. The men are rated 23
rd and placed 26
th last year.
Carroll will race 7 competitors in the championship event on each side. For the women, Katelyn McKay, Nicole Morgen, Kyle Olson, Hannah Sempf, Reghan Worley, Natalie Yocum, and Hanna Ziegenhagen will race. For the men, Brycen Gardner, Van Gottwals, James Normandeau, Connor O'Hara, Zach Rector, Clayton Ryerson, and Spencer Swaim will run.
The Saints will compete against 35 teams in each field as well as multiple individual qualifiers. Rocky Mountain College also received a berth in the women's race. Many other teams will be familiar from the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge where the Carroll women placed 9
th of 25 competitive NAIA teams and the men 13
th out of 28.
"This has been a tremendous season for us in terms of our culture, confidence, and consistency," Head Coach Shannon Flynn said. "Nationals is a great opportunity for us to take some risks in a competitive atmosphere and to know that we can trust our training, toughness, and teammates to carry us through any adversity we might meet. We always celebrate making it here, but this year we have bigger goals in mind so I'm excited to see how the teams execute those."
The men's 8k will begin at 6:30 am Mountain Time, and the women's 5k will start at 7:30 am Mountain on Friday.
