BOISE, Idaho. - The No. 16 Carroll Men's Basketball team fell to NCAA Division I opponent Boise State on Tuesday night in Boise, 76-58.
Tonight's game was the first of two consecutive exhibition contests that Carroll (2-0) will play this week. The Saints showed that while they are young, they can hang with, and cause problems for teams at any level.
After a closely-contested first half, the Broncos would go on a late run to take a 36-25 lead after one half of play. Carroll shot just 38 percent from the field in the first half, to Boise State's 44 percent. The Broncos also made four three-point shots to Carroll's one.
The Saints would battle in the second half, shooting nearly 52 percent from the field and scoring 33 points, but would fall short in their efforts leading to a 76-58 win for Boise State.
Carroll's Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / SO) had an outstanding performance in the exhibition, leading all scorers with 21 points in addition to five steals, two rebounds and an assist.
Brendan Temple (Castle Rock, Colo. / SR) finished with 12 points and three rebounds, and Gui Pedra (Sao Paulo, Brazil / JR) added six rebounds and five points.
The Broncos were led by Tyson Degenhart who finished with 19 points and four rebounds.
The exhibition was an opportunity for Head Coach
Kurt Paulson to get his crew some experience against high-level competition, and more on-court experience for a new group learning each others play styles and continuing to build team chemistry.
Carroll will now return to the Big Sky State for another exhibition game on Friday against NCAA Division II opponent MSU Billings at 7 p.m. in Billings.
