HAVRE, Mont. - The Carroll College Volleyball team lost in five sets tonight to MSU-Northern in Havre, Mont.
The Saints just can't seem to avoid playing five-set matches. Carroll (10-11, 2-3) played in their eleventh five-set match on the year, which now includes four of their five conference matches. The Saints move to 6-5 in those matches, after pushing the Skylights (11-6, 3-1) to the edge tonight.
MSU-Northern jumped all over the Saints to begin the night, grabbing the first two sets, 25-18, 25-20. Carroll battled back and evened the match at two sets apiece after winning sets three and four, 25-22, 25-17. The Skylights would prevail in an intense fifth set, needing an additional point to win 16-14 and take the match.
Carroll got tremendous output from both
Elizabeth Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / SO) and
Katherine McEuen (Spokane, Wash. / SR) offensively. Heuiser finished with a team-high 18 kills, while McEuen was right behind her with 17 kills. McEuen also shared the team-high total in digs (26) with
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / JR).
Hannah Schweikert (Columbia Falls, Mont. / SO) tallied 46 assists on the night.
Lauren Sehenuk (Inglewood, Calif. / JR) had a game-high 9 blocks.
MSU-Northern's Jessalyn Chivilicek led all players with 24 kills, and Emily Feller added 52 assists for the Skylights.
The Saints will have a week-off from conference play, and will return to action on October 20, when they face-off with Montana Western in Dillon.
