HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Basketball team earned their second victory of the season, beating the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology 90-44 on Sunday at the PE Center in Helena.
The Saints (2-0) completed a weekend sweep of the two Canadian schools on their 2022-23 schedule, breezing past SAIT, 90-47.
After a bit of a sluggish start, Carroll found its footing and scored 47 points in the first half, 20 of which came from Jonny Hillman (Post Falls, Idaho / SR), who went 8-11 from the field in the first period.
Gui Pedra (Sao Paulo, Brazil / JR) followed up his strong performance on Friday with 9 first half points. Pedra has been the first man off of the Saints bench in the early portion of the season, and has played the role well through two games.
SAIT shot 45.6% from the field in the first half, but the Saints forced 14 first half turnovers from the Trojans, and limited them to just 22 shot attempts in the first frame.
The second half would play out nearly identical to the first half, leading to a 90-44 victory.
Carroll dominated the offensive boards, scoring 27 points on second-chance opportunities. The Saints continued to get good minutes from their bench in their second game, scoring 31 points off the bench.
Hillman led all players with 22 points and seven assists. Andrew Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif. / SO) and Isaiah Moore (Fairfield, Calif. / FR) each scored 11. Brendan Temple (Castle Rock, Colo. / SR) and Derek Kramer (Bellevue, Wash. / FR) each pulled down 9 rebounds for the Saints.
Derian Valdes led the Trojans with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Carroll will now head to Idaho where they will play an exhibition contest with NCAA Division I Boise State on Tuesday evening.
