HELENA, Mont. – The sixth-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team won a battle of top 25 teams against No. 25 Montana Western, 73-64 on Thursday night at the PE Center.
Carroll opened the game on a 7-0 run, but the Bulldogs rallied after that. After one quarter of play Montana Western led by a score of 19-12.
The Saints outscored the Bulldogs 18-11 in the second quarter to even the score out at 30 a piece heading into the half time break.
The third quarter began with an 8-1 run from Carroll. They were able to parlay that into a 17-9 quarter, and an eight-point lead heading into the final period.
The Saints would go on to win the game by a final score of 73-64, advancing them to 17-4 on the year and 5-2 in Frontier Conference play. Western is now 12-7 and 2-5 in conference.
Sienna Swannack was the star of the show for the Fighting Saints, scoring a game-high 23 points. She was 9 of 14 from the field and 4 of 7 from the three-point line. Also scoring in double figures were
Danielle Wagner with 13 and
Jamie Pickens with 12.
Montana Western was led by a 23-point showing from Brynley Fitzgerald.
Carroll will now turn their sites to Saturday, when they will travel to Butte for a 2 p.m. matchup with Montana Tech.
