GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Carroll College women's soccer team secured their first win of the season Monday afternoon, defeating the Providence Argos 3-2 in a non-conference battle.
The Saints came out firing in this one, totaling eight first-half shots. Despite that, the score remained 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.
Early on in the second half, however, the Saints offense exploded.
Zoie Koci set up
Katie Martin for a goal in the 62
nd minute, and that started an avalanche of goals.
McKenna Payne scored 34 seconds into the 66
th minute, then
Melissa Dugger found the back of the net 56 seconds into the 66
th minute to cap off a stretch in which the Saints scored three goals in four minutes and two goals in 30 seconds.
With Carroll in the lead 3-0, Providence refused to go quietly.
Danielle Chang scored a goal on an assist from Kylee Manning in the 71
st minute to make it a 3-1 Carroll lead.
The Argos would go on to get one more goal from Marti Ludwick in the 88
th, but their comeback effort ended up falling short. The Saints went on to win the game 3-2.
Carroll totaled 26 shots, 13 of which were on target, in today's victory.
They will return to the pitch on September 17 when they kick off their conference schedule against Bushnell at Nelson Stadium.
