Carroll Volleyball swept by Montana Tech in home opener

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Volleyball team suffered their first Frontier Conference loss of the season to Montana Tech at the PE Center on Wednesday night as the Orediggers defeated the Saints three sets to none.
 
The Orediggers jumped out to an early lead in this one. Both teams went back and forth in the first set, but it was Montana Tech who pulled away to secure it 25-20.
 
Carroll battled back in the second set, but their efforts ended up falling short. The score got above 25 as both teams continued to exchange points. Eventually, Tech put it away by a score of 30-28.
 
After a riveting second set, the Orediggers were able to take the momentum and run with it. The Saints cut it close in the third set, put Montana Tech ended up securing the sweep and their first conference win.
 
Olivia Muir was the team leader in kills for Montana Tech with 10. McKenna Kaelber added an impressive 31 assists.
 
Lexi Mikkelsen and Taelyr Krantz each had seven kills for the Saints. Setters Hannah Schweikert and Kylie Kackman each had 12 assists.
 
The Saints, now 8-10 this season, will turn right around for a tough road test at Rocky Mountain College on Friday at 7 p.m.
 
Tech is now 13-4 on the season and also have Rocky on tap for this weekend. They will play in Billings on Saturday.
