Carroll Men's Cross Country Place 2nd & Women 3rd at Montana Open

Missoula, Mont. – Carroll's cross country men placed 2^nd and cross country women placed 3^rd at the Montana Open on Friday.

On the men's side, University of Montana (UM), Montana State University – Billings (MSU-B), and three other Frontier Conference schools fielded full teams. The Saints narrowly edged NCAA Division II MSU-B by one point to place second behind NCAA Division I UM. Spencer Swaim placed in the Top 10 (10^th – 21:38.4) and Jonah Fisher in the Top 20 (18^th – 22:05.4). The men had a tight spread of only 18 seconds between their 2^nd and 5^th runners.

In the women's race, UM, Montana State University, MSU-B, and five Frontier Conference Schools put full teams on the line. The Saints placed ahead of NCAA Division I UM by 13 points – an exciting positive from the race – but behind Montana Tech by 14 points. Reghan Worley placed 2^nd with a 17:13.3 and Natalie Yocum placed in the Top 20 (18^th – 18:31.8).

"Today highlighted the reality of focusing on process over product and weathering the ups an downs of a long season," said Saints Coach Shannon Flynn. "The men had a great day, and it was fun to see individuals break through and the team show a tight 2-5 spread of only 18 seconds. The women on the other hand experienced the adversity of falling to a conference foe that they beat last week. We know if we respond to this well it will make us better in the end, and I heard the women express today that they are determined to bounce back."

Carroll Cross Country will compete again in two weeks at the Rocky Mountain/Montana State University – Billings Invite.
