LA CROSSE, Wisc. – The Carroll College volleyball team opened their weekend at the Viterbo Invitational with a win and a loss after Friday's action. They lost to Dordt (Iowa) to start off the day before bouncing back with a win over University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Dordt took the first set 25-21 over the Saints to kick things off on Friday afternoon. The Saints responded by evening the match at one set a piece, winning the second 25-22.
The intensity levels continued to rise in the third set. The score was 23 a piece coming out of a timeout, but Dordt prevailed taking the set 25-23.
With their backs against the wall in the fourth set, the Saints found themselves tied once again, this time at 22 all. Dordt was able to close out the fourth set 25-22 and secure the victory.
Taelyr Krantz had yet another great performance against the Defenders, tallying 16 kills and three blocks.
Julia Carr led the team with 21 digs, and
Kylie Kackman had 25 assists.
Corrina Timmermans led the defenders with 20 kills and Erica Bousema totaled 24 digs.
The Saints responded in their second game with a convincing win over UM-Dearborn. Carroll started out strong with a 25-15 win in the first set.
They ended up sweeping the Wolverines, out-scoring them 75-38 in three sets.
Katherine McEuen led the Saints with 10 kills in the winning effort.
Julia Carr added 18 more digs to an already impressive day for the sophomore libero.
Gina Giacomini added 11 digs for the Wolverines.
The Saints, now 6-4 on the year, will return to action tomorrow for two more big games. They take on Viterbo University at 10 a.m. MST and William Penn University at 12:30 p.m. MST.
