Carroll Softball falls to No. 5 Oregon Tech in Saturday double-header

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints Softball team dropped both games in a double header Saturday afternoon at No. 5 Oregon Tech. Game one ended in an Owl's 6-2 victory and game two (a non-conference game) yielded an 8-0 win for the Owls.

The fifth ranked Owls have proven to be a tough out this year as they now improve their record to 32-6 overall and 16-5 within Cascade Conference play. Carroll now sits at 12-25 overall and 7-14 within the Cascade Conference. The trend of the Owls' dominant pitching continued today as they even further improved upon their 2.03 team season ERA.

In game one, the Saints offense was highlighted by Sarah Conway and Jessica Nimmo at the top of the lineup. Conway was 3-4 and Nimmo went 2-4, serving as positives for the Saints moving forward from this tough matchup this weekend with Oregon Tech.

Unfortunately much of the rest of the Saints offense was stymied by the excellent pitching by Sarah Abramson. Oregon Tech responded to the Saints' first inning score with three of their own in the bottom of the first and held on with a couple more insurance runs as the game went on.

As for game two, pitching was again the story in the shutout victory for the Owls. Mckenzie Staub gave up two hits on her way to improving her record on the season to 17-2.

Much of the game was tight as the Owls didn't completely open things up until their eight run sixth inning, ending the weekend series.

The Saints will look to get back on track against Southern Oregon, who will travel to Helena for a double header Friday afternoon as well as Saturday afternoon.
