HELENA, Mont. -- Carroll Women's Basketball announced the signing of Alexa Orten earlier this week as a member of their 2021 recruiting class.

Alexa Orten is a 5'7" point guard from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Alexa is an all-region, and all-state academic performer, holding the school record for highest GPA/ACT for an athlete. She was also unanimously chosen as MVP - Offense and MVP - Defense, All Tournament MVP, and 2-time All-Tournament Team. Alexa is also a member of a USA women's basketball team that is playing at the United World Games in Europe summer 2021.

Alexa was a team leader the last two years, ranking among the top in the state for class 6A averaging 16 ppg, with a career high of 33 points.  For the past two years, she also led the state for 6A in steals, averaging 4 per game and was also on the state leader board for 3 pointers made, assists, and double-digit scoring.

"Alexa is a tremendous student and will be a great ambassador of Carroll College. She is a hard worker and will be a player that makes those around her better," said Carroll Head Coach Rachelle Sayers about Orten.  "She is a tough competitor that can get to the rim and finish as well as "D" up the opposing team's best players.  We are extremely excited that she chose to be a Saint"

Alexa chose Carroll College after narrowing her choices to Carroll and 4 other schools from NCAA Division II (RMAC Conference): Western Colorado, Colorado Christian, Metro State and Westminster.  She had numerous offers from other NAIA and NCAA Division III schools as well as St. Andrews University in Europe.

"When you know, you know. For me Carroll is the total package. The people, the campus, the academics, the sports, the reputation," said Orten of her decision to become a Saint. "Even more, Coach Sayers and her team's competence and caring really stood out and made choosing Carroll an easy decision."
