HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Softball team lost the first two games of a four-game series with Warner Pacific on Thursday at Centennial Park. The Knights won the first game 2-1 in extra innings and won the second game 6-4.
Â
The first game between the Saints and the Knights was a pitcher's duel between Melia Croydon of Warner Pacific and
Abby Hanley of Carroll from the start.
Carroll opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when
Kaitlynn Ayers crossed the plate as a result of a throwing error by the catcher.Â
Â
After two quiet frames, Warner Pacific evened the score at 1-1 on a solo shot from Devinne Amesquita.Â
Â
Through the next three innings, the game stayed even into the ninth. Both teams had their fair share of opportunities, but the Knights finally broke the tie in the top of the ninth as Jamie Carlson singled in the go-ahead run.
Â
Despite having runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth, the Saints could not get the tying run across home and fell by a final score of 2-1.
Â
The Saints got the bats going in the first inning of game two. An RBI double by
Kaitlynn Ayers and an RBI sacrifice fly by
Emma Hamilton put Carroll up 2-0 early on.Â
Â
After four innings, Carroll held a 4-3 lead following an RBI single off the bat of
Sarah Jenkins.Â
Â
Warner Pacific scored a run in the top of the sixth to tie, then followed it with two more in the top of the seventh to put the Knights ahead.
Â
The Saints had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but left the runners stranded to end the game in a 6-4 final score.
Â
Carroll (7-20) will play Warner Pacific (11-14) in another double-header on Friday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Centennial Park. The games will be streamed on the Fighting Saints Network, sponsored by Point S Tire and Auto Service, at https://www.youtube.com/user/carrollathletics
