Saints Softball swept in triple-header at Corban

SALEM, Ore. -- After Friday's games were postponed due to rain, the Carroll Softball team faced No. 23 Corban in a Cascade Conference triple-header on Saturday. The Saints were swept by the Warriors, losing two of the three games in the final inning.

In the first game, the Saints got on the board first when Haley Kampka, a sophomore from Stevensville, Mont., hit a solo home-run in the top of the fourth. The Warriors responded in the bottom half of the frame with three of their own to take a 3-1 lead. After a couple quiet innings, the Saints bats woke up once again scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead. Corban answered the Saints, however, in the bottom of the seventh scoring two-runs on a walk-off single to win it 5-4.

The second game also started with Carroll striking first. Kaitlynn Ayers, a freshman from Twin Falls, Idaho, hit an RBI single to put the Saints up 1-0. From there, the Warriors' bats caught fire and the Saints were unable to keep up. Corban won the game by a final score of 9-3.

The final game of the triple-header had some fireworks to end the day. Heading into the fifth inning, Corban was holding onto a 3-1 lead. Then the Saints rallied and drove in 6 runs to take a 7-3 lead in the top of the fifth. The Saints' rally was headlined by a three-run shot off the bat of Amber Brewer, a junior from Peoria, Ariz. After that, the Warriors started to chip away and trailed Carroll 7-5 going into the bottom of the seventh. Corban then plated three runs to win the game 8-7, two of those runs came on a walk-off double.

After Saturday, Carroll now has a record of 2-9 overall and 0-3 in conference. Corban is 8-6 on the year and 3-0 in conference.
