HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Softball team split a double-header on Friday afternoon against Eastern Oregon at Centennial Park.

The Spring weather rolled in just in time for the Saints to play their Cascade Conference home opener in Helena. The players and coaches worked very hard all week to get the snow off the field and by Friday afternoon it was ready to roll.

Game one did not go as planned for the Saints. Eastern Oregon's bats heated up, as the Mountaineers went on to win the game by a final score of 8-2. 

The second game was an absolute shootout by both teams. The Saints started things off with a nine run first inning. With two outs, Amber Brewer reached on an error and a rally ensued for the Saints as they batted all the way through the order and then some. 

Highlights of the first inning include a solo home-run from Emma Hamilton and a three-run home-run from Kaitlynn Ayers.

Eastern Oregon responded by adding a couple runs of their own, before the Saints put together another little rally of their own in the third inning.  After three frames, Carroll led 12-2.

The Mountaineers made a strong effort to come back down the stretch, but Carroll continued to add insurance and won the game by a final score of 14-11.

After today's games, the Saints are now 3-10 on the season and 1-4 in the Cascade Conference. Eastern Oregon is now 6-10 on the year.

The Saints and Mountaineers will meet again Saturday at Centennial Park for a double-header at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The second game will be a non-conference game.
