HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Softball team was swept in a double-header on Wednesday against NCAA-D2 Humboldt State at Centennial Park. The Saints lost to the Jacks 12-4 in five innings in the first game and 7-3 in the second game.

In the first game, Humboldt State got off to a hot start to grab an early lead. By the time the Saints came up to bat in the bottom of the fourth, the Lumberjacks held a 9-0 lead.

The Saints got the bats going in the bottom of the fourth, as
Katie Huisman stepped up and plated two runs on an RBI single.Â

The Lumberjacks responded by knocking in three of their own runs in the top half of the fifth inning to take a 12-2 lead.Â

Kaitlynn Ayers RBI double and a
Kirsten Norris RBI sacrifice fly brought in two runs for Carroll in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to avoid the eight-run mercy rule. The game ended in a 12-4 final after five innings.

Humboldt State continued their ongoing rally into the start of the second game, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.Â

When the fifth inning rolled around, the Saints found themselves in another hole, down 7-0. With two runners in scoring position,
Emma Hamilton stepped up to the plate and emptied the bases with a single that scored
Sydnee Paul and
Sarah Jenkins.Â

The Saints scored one more run on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning, but could not close the gap. Humboldt took game two by a final score of 7-3.

Carroll is now 7-18 on the year and will start off their four-game series against Warner Pacific on Thursday at Centennial Park with a double-header at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
