CALDWELL, Idaho -- The Carroll College Softball team split two games at 25th ranked College of Idaho on Saturday. The Saints lost the first game, which was a Cascade Conference game, 10-2, and won the second game (non-conference) 3-1.
In the first game, the Saints struck first courtesy of a solo homer from freshman Kaitlynn Ayers. Heading into the bottom of the second inning, Carroll held a 1-0 lead. Then the Yotes' bats began to heat up. C of I proceeded to rattle off 10 runs over the next three frames, creating a final score of 10-2 in five innings.Â
In the second game, Sarah Jenkins dominated in the circle for the Saints. Jenkins, a sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., allowed just one run and six hits over seven innings pitched to help lead Carroll to victory.
Freshman Kaitlynn Ayers and sophomore Haley Kampka hit back-to-back solo home-runs in the second inning to give the Saints the push they needed offensively to get the win.Â
Carroll, now 7-16 on the season and 3-8 in conference play, will make the trip back home before playing a four game non-conference series on Monday and Tuesday at Centennial Park versus Humboldt State. The games will take place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
