KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The Carroll Fighting Saints Softball team split two games on Sunday at Northwest, winning the first game 9-6 and losing the second game 7-6. With the victory in the first game, that clinched the series win for the Saints. That is the first series win for Carroll in conference play this season.
The first of the two games on Sunday was a high scoring one. Carroll came out swinging a hot bat, and scored four runs in the top of the first. With a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning, the Saints exploded offensively, scoring nine runs in two innings. The lead that Carroll built was too much for Northwest to come back from, with the Saints winning the game 13-8.
In the second game, it was another shootout. Carroll pushed three runs across the plate in the top of the third inning, to cut the Northwest lead to 4-3. Then, in the next three innings, Northwest tallied five runs. The Saints put together another surge in the sixth and seventh inning, but it wasn't enough to even the score as Carroll lost 9-8.
Anna Davidson, a sophomore catcher from Boise, Idaho, had a huge day for the Saints. In the first game alone, Davidson went three for five with seven RBIs and one run scored.Â
Carroll is now 6-13 on the season and 3-5 in conference play. They will travel to Caldwell, Idaho next weekend for four games at College of Idaho on Friday and Saturday.Â
