DILLON, Mont. -- After not playing last weekend due to cancellations, the Carroll Women's Basketball team beat Montana Western on the road Saturday night 63-55.
Out of the gate, Carroll's defense set the tone of the game. After the first quarter, the Saints led 14-5.Â
Then in the second, Western started to find some success on offense getting the ball to the hoop. After a 7-0 run, the Bulldogs cut the deficit to three points at half, trailing 28-25.
Down the stretch, the Saints hit big shot after big shot. It was a three-pointer from Danielle Wagner, a senior from Havre, Mont., that put the Saints up by 10 with 1:28 left on the clock and put the game out of reach.
Jamie Pickens, a sophomore from Helena, scored a game high 20 points including 14 in the first half to help lead the Saints to victory.Â
For Western, their leading scorer was Brynley Fitzgerald, a junior from Dillon. Fitzgerald finished with 15 points.Â
The Saints are now 18-2 on the year as they look to close out the regular season strong on Sunday afternoon versus the 14-7 Bulldogs. The game will be played at 2 p.m. at Straugh Gymnasium.Â
