DILLON, Mont. – The Carroll Women's Basketball team defeated Montana Western 60-49 on Saturday in Dillon in a clash of the Frontier Conference's top two teams.
As expected, the game was highly contested early on with neither team able to pull ahead. Carroll led the Bulldogs 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
It looked like the game was going to be tied heading into half time, but the Saints had other plans. Inbounding from their own baseline with 2.8 seconds left,
Kamden Hilborn launched the inbound deep down the court and
Sienna Swannack buried a three to put Carroll up 29-26.
The Saints took that momentum into the second half, and were able to lead the rest of the way behind an outstanding defensive effort and 14 second half points from
Jamie Pickens.
Pickens finished up the ball game with 18 points and 12 rebounds, both of which were game highs.
The leading scorer on Saturday for the Bulldogs was Shainy Mack, who scored 13 points.
With Saturday's win, Carroll is now 2-0 in conference play and 11-2 over all. Montana Western is now 1-1 in conference play and 7-2 over all.
The Saints will return to the hardwood next Wednesday, when they travel to Pocatello, Idaho to take on Idaho State in an exhibition game.
