Carroll Women's Basketball drops exhibition at Idaho State in OT

POCATELLO, Idaho – The fifth-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team suffered a 69-66 overtime loss to Idaho State in an exhibition on Wednesday.
 
The two teams exchanged buckets in the first quarter, proving early on that the Saints belonged out there with their NCAA Division I opponent. The score was tied 16-16 after one period of play.
 
The game stayed tight through the second quarter and at the half, Carroll held a 29-28 lead.
 
Things got really interesting in the third quarter when the Saints extended their lead to 42-31 with two minutes left in the period. A 9-0 Bengal run capped off by a Tomekia Whitman half-court buzzer beater closed the gap to 42-40 with one quarter remaining.
 
Idaho State tied it up early on in the fourth before Carroll soared to a 10-0 run of their own to go up 52-42 with 5:10 left to play.
 
The Bengals refused to go quietly as they stormed back with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 55-55 and force overtime.
 
In the overtime period, the lead continued to change back and forth between the two teams. The Bengals ended up being able to fend off the Saints, sealing the 69-66 victory.
 
Danielle Wagner was the leading scorer for Carroll with 16 points. Jamie Pickens added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Ellie Smith tallied a game-high 17 points on 8 of 12 shooting to lead the way for ISU.
 
Carroll will be on the court next at the Cactus Classic in Chandler, Arizona. Their first of three games there will be against Menlo College on December 20.
