Helena, Mont. – The Saints Cross Country teams head to the Frontier Conference Championships in Dillon, MT on Friday November 5.
Rocky Mountain College, University of Providence, Montana Tech, MSU-Northern, and Montana Western will also compete in the race in an attempt to earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, WA on November 19. Conference winning teams will receive a berth, but teams can also be awarded an at-large bid based on national rankings. Individuals can qualify for Nationals if they place in the Top 15 at Conference and are one of the 4 fastest individuals not on a qualifying team.
Carroll's women are currently ranked 20
th while the men recently fell from the Top 25 and are located in 27
th. "On the men's side we know we need to win to make it to Nationals," shared Head Coach
Shannon Flynn. "That's one of the fun parts about sports. Sometimes you're in a pressure situation where you have to rise to the occasion, and I believe we have the team depth and individual fortitude to do that."
The Carroll women have fallen to Montana Tech in their last two head to head meetings, and the Carroll men were bested by Rocky at the Inland Empire Championships. "We love how competitive our conference is because it makes all the teams better," said Flynn. "Our goal is to win the meet on Friday on both sides, but we know to have a chance to do that we'll need to be focused, we'll need to help each other, and we'll need to be ready to get tough when it gets uncomfortable. We're very much capable and have great momentum, so we're excited to do our best to put the hard work and growth of the past 5 months on display."
The Saints will race 13 women and 12 men in Friday's races. The gun for the men's 8k will sound at 10:30 am MST, and the women's 5k will begin at 11:30 am MST. Results will be available at
