BILLINGS, Mont. – The Carroll Women's Basketball team rode a hot start to a 70-53 road win on Sunday afternoon at MSU-Billings.
The Saints jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter, starting the game out on a 14-0 run. After one quarter of play, they held a 20-6 lead.
In the second quarter, the Yellowjackets were able to find their footing and cut the deficit to seven points. A three-pointer from
Danielle Wagner late in the first half gave the Saints a ten-point lead heading into the break.
The Yellowjackets comeback attempt fell short in the second half, as Carroll was able to keep up their pace and cruise to a 17-point victory to put them at 7-1 on the year.
Danielle Wagner paced the Saints in scoring with 26 points on Sunday afternoon. She also added nine rebounds.
Christine Denny and
Jamie Pickens also scored in double-figures with 12 points each. Pickens had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The leader in the scoring column for the Yellowjackets was Cariann Kunkel. She had 11 points.
The sixth-ranked Saints will hit the road for a trio of big-ticket non-conference games this week at the Julie Costello Memorial Classic in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. They will play No. 4 Thomas More, No. 14 Lindsey Wilson, and No. 15 St. Xavier over a span of four days.
