CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Carroll Women's Basketball team was edged out 74-73 in a tight overtime loss to No. 4 Thomas More on Wednesday evening.
Thomas More got off to a hot start in the first quarter, opening the game on a 13-4 run. Carroll found their footing late in the first and cut it to a three-point deficit heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter followed suit, with both teams exchanging blows back and forth. Thomas More went into half time with a 33-32 lead.
Carroll found themselves in a six-point hole heading into the fourth quarter, after Thomas More outscored them by five in the third. That being said, there would be no quit from the Fighting Saints in the final period of regulation.
Four quarters would not be enough to determine the outcome of the game as Carroll pushed back in the fourth quarter and forced overtime at a 60-60 tie.
Thomas More was able to pull-out the 74-73 win at the end of the overtime period, putting Carroll at 7-2 now on the season.
Danielle Wagner was Carroll's leading scorer, finishing the game with 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Christine Denny had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Sienna Swannack and
Maddie Geritz also finished in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.
Thomas More was led in the scoring column by Emily Simon and Zoie Barth who each had 14 points.
Carroll will be off tomorrow before a big weekend against two more ranked teams. They face off with No. 15 St. Xavier University on Friday at 2:45 p.m. MST, and No. 14 Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday at 10 a.m. MST as part of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic.
