Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Carroll Volleyball goes 2-0 to open Frontier Conference tournament, advances to title game

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll Volleyball team stitched together an amazing performance on the first day of the Frontier Conference Volleyball Tournament. The Saints beat Montana Western in the quarterfinals 3-1, and took down Montana Tech 3-1 in the semifinals.

The opening game of the day for the Saints was dominated for the most part by Carroll. They dropped the second set to the Bulldogs, but outscored them 75-50 in the three sets that they did win.

Taelyr Krantz had yet another stellar performance leading the Saints in kills with 13 and blocks with 5 in the win over Western.

The Bulldogs were led by 12 kills from Kaitlyn White.

Following the victory in the quarterfinals, the Saints faced a tall task in the second-seeded Montana Tech Oredigger. Tech had already defeated Carroll twice this season, but this time around it was a different story.

Carroll asserted themselves in the first set, taking it by a score of 25-18. The second set belonged to Tech by a score of 25-17.

The turning point came in the third set when the Saints found themselves in a 24-20 hole. Carroll fought back though and scored six straight points to win the set 26-24 and take a 2-1 lead.

At that point, the momentum was too much for the Orediggers to overcome. Carroll closed out the fourth and final set by a score of 25-21 to secure their trip to the Frontier Conference Tournament championship game.

Katherine McEuen was dominant in the semifinal win, totaling a team-high 14 kills and a service ace. Hannah Schweikert also added 30 assists.

Montana Tech was led by Karina Mickelson who had 14 kills and 5 blocks.

The Saints will return to the court tomorrow night against Providence in the Frontier Conference Championship game at the PE Center. Providence is currently ranked fifth nationally and they have beaten the Saints three times this season. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
