HELENA, Mont - The Carroll College Women's Soccer team won in dominant fashion Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium. The Saints were able to shut out the Argonauts 3-0.
Coming down to the wire on the 2021 season, the Saints were in need of a win to help solidify their position in the Cascade Conference standings, and managed to do so in impressive fashion.
Carroll spent much of the afternoon on the attack, and the Saints were rewarded early on with a goal in the 18th minute. Junior Forward
Melissa Dugger was able to sneak a shot into the back of the goal to open up the scoring for the Saints. The game would remain at a 1-0 score for the rest of the first half.
Neither team was able to create much momentum at the start of the second half, but a pair of insurance goals near the 80th minute boosted the Saints to victory. Junior Forward
Blair Stapleton scored off an assist from Senior
Katie Martin. Then, nearly immediately after Junior
Kody Clements buried the final goal of the game in the back of the net.
Carroll smothered the Argo offense, allowing only 2 shots on goal. The Saints took 25 shots, with 16 shots on goal.Â
The Saints will turn their attention towards Rocky Mountain College on Sunday at 3 pm at Nelson Stadium, looking for another win to guarantee a spot in the postseason. Sunday's return to the pitch will be streamed on the Fighting Saints Network, presented by Point S Tire & Auto at
