Men's Cross Country | 10/17/21 | 1:14 PM
Lewiston, Idaho – The Carroll cross country women placed 6
th and the men 10
th in a large, stacked field (14 women's teams and 16 men's teams) at the Inland Empire Championships.
"We accomplished what we set out to on this road trip in terms of staying focused on the process and connecting as a group," shared Saints Coach
Shannon Flynn. "It was a bonus to get experience in a big, competitive race and to see the women's team compete with confidence in a way that is likely to move them up in the national rankings."
The women surpassed Cascade Conference foe Lewis-Clark State while falling to Montana Tech by a very narrow margin – especially in this size of race - of 5 points. They boasted the second lowest NAIA team score in a race filled with NCAA Division 1 and nationally ranked NAIA competition. Two women set personal records on the day in the 5k:
Andria Mourich at 18:37 and
Katelyn McKay at 19:13.
Reghan Worley had a season record in 18:17.
The men had a tougher set of conditions with wind and temperature rising for the second race and with back to back 8k races over the past two weekends.
Patty Keeley still set a personal record with a time of 26:48.1 in his second ever collegiate competition.
The Saints travel again next weekend to a traditionally fast meet in Rocklin, CA filled with multiple NAIA teams currently ranked in the Top 25 nationally. "We have to stay hungry and scrap for seconds moving into our last regular season race and preparations for the Conference Championships in November," added Coach Flynn.
