HELENA, Mont. -- And then, the tides turned for the Fighting Saints men's basketball team.
A few days after a stinging loss late to Montana Tech that dropped the Saints to 0-2 in conference, Carroll College found ways to close out two road games against Montana State-Northern and improve to .500 in the Frontier Conference.
On Tuesday, the Saints (5-3, 2-2 Frontier Conference) withstood a late charge from the Lights (0-2) to win 70-66 as
Shamrock Campbell,
Jovan Sljivancanin and
Dennis Flowers III combined for 61 of the Saints' 70 points.
The Saints held a seven-point lead with 2:20 to go, but saw the Lights go on a 5-0 run as the Saints then went scoreless for about two minutes.
Dennis Flowers III added a pair of free throws, but another three from Northern (1-2, 0-2) kept the game a one-possession affair.
Shamrock Campbell gave the Saints two more free throws to close out the game, Northern's desperation shots would miss. Campbell led the Saints with 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field. Sljivancanin and Flowers each added 20.
Mascio McCadney had a game-high 27 points as Northern's top scorer.
The Saints will face No. 14 Providence in Great Falls on Saturday and Sunday.
