HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints won the second half, but couldn't overcome a major first-half deficit to take down the No. 11-ranked Providence Argonauts on Saturday, falling 84-75.
A slow start plagued Carroll against the Frontier Conference preseason favorite. The Saints trailed 47-26 at halftime.
The second half was a different story for the Saints, but it was too little, too late. Carroll outscored Providence 49-37 thanks in part to a strong offensive rebounding effort. The Saints outrebounded the Argonauts
Shamrock Campbell and Gui Pedra led the Saints with 14 points.
Providence's Marcus Stephens scored a game-high 22 points.
The Saints will see if they can build off their strong second half again on Sunday, as they square off again with Providence.
