HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints men's and women's golf teams competed in the 6th Annual MJGA Collegiate at Aliante Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, over the past weekend.
The women's team placed fifth overall with a team score of 708 while the Saints men's team placed ninth, shooting a two-round team total of 687.
"I thought our women's team did a real nice job competing and even moving up the leaderboard in day two, Weslee and Caroline executed some very good stretches of holes," Saints coach
Bennett MacIntyre said.
The Saints competed against teams from all over the region, including Westminster, Winona State University, Chapman University, Minot State, Colorado State Pueblo and Adams State, to name a few.
Joseph Potkonjak led the men, tying for 22nd with his two-round total of 157.
"Joe Potkonjak had a really solid first round and led the way for us on the men's side," MacIntyre said.
Samuel Berry finished tied for 27th with a two-round total of 159.
Connor Mora followed with a two round total of 184, while
Josh Neth posted a 187 and
Palmer Moylan shot 222.
"On the men's side the final day was a challenge, many mistakes that are typical of early spring golf when you haven't had the reps," MacIntyre said. "I know the guys are eager to get a lot more work in as we prepare for the conference tournament in April."
The women were led by
Caroline Hobson and
Weslee Nehl, who both fired 176s.
Katie Fagg was right behind with a 177. Rounding out the team scores were
Cailin Spencer's 179 and
Sydnee Nowlen's 194.
