Carroll SB drops twinbill to OIT

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints stranded too many runners on Friday, as Oregon Tech took two games from the Saints at Centennial Park.

Game 1

The Fighting Saints (8-9, 3-5 Cascade Collegiate Conference) and Owls (10-9, 4-4)
swapped two runs in the fifth inning, but OIT scored a run in the sixth and seventh to close out the Saints.

Kaila Mick's two RBI double gave the Owls the lead in the fifth.

The Saints answered when Amber Brewer hit a RBI single and then Ali Williams drew a walk to bring in the tying run.

However, in the sixth, Bri Griffiths grounded out to bring in the go-ahead run. Then, in the seventh, Krista Ward hit a RBI double to give Owls a cushion, 4-2.

The Saints scored one more run in the seventh and loaded up the bases, but couldn't push across the tying run.

Brooke Yarnall and Anna Davidson each finished with a pair of hits for the Saints, while Ali Williams drew three walks and Yarnall and Amber Brewer each drew two.

The Saints stranded 10 runners on base.

Ali Williams (3-4) allowed eight hits and four earned runs, while striking out three and walking two.

Game 2

The second contest had a similar feeling, as the Saints again stranded 10 runners on base. OIT took advantage, winning 3-1.

Oregon Tech took control in the first inning when Krista Ward hit a two-run homer.

The sides went scoreless the rest of the way until the seventh inning when OIT added another on a Logan Nunes single.

That's not to say the Saints didn't have chances. The Saints out-hit OIT 6-5 and stalled runners in scoring position several times on the day.

Amber Brewer led the Saints bats in Game Two, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Abby Hanley (3-3) pitched for the Saints, allowing six hits and three earned runs.

The Saints are back in action against OIT on Saturday, with the first game scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
