Carroll SB falls to MSUB in twinbill

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints softball team fell twice to Montana State Billings on Monday in the Magic City.

Game 1

MSUB (8-9) and Carroll (8-7) swapped runs until the Yellowjackets powered through with two runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Saints in the series opener.

MSUB took the lead first when Georgiabelle Benning hit a RBI single.

The Saints responded in the third when Anna ApRoberts hit a RBI double to center field.

Carroll took its first lead when Brooke Yarnall hit a RBI single to center field in the fifth inning.

The Yellowjackets tied the game in the sixth on another RBI single by Benning.

In the top of the eighth, the Saints put themselves in prime position to win after an Amber Brewer RBI single.

However, a walk-off home run by Skyler Jenkins sealed the game.

Yarnall led the Saints' bats with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

Game 2

The Saints rallied to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but the Yellowjackets immediately responded and distanced themselves from the Saints in Game Two, winning 10-5.

MSUB took the lead in the first inning when Penney hit a RBI double.

Carroll tied the game after Yarnall scored on a wild pitch. Ali Williams gave the Saints a 3-1 lead when she hit a two-run homer in the top of the third.

MSUB took the lead in the bottom of the third, however, and never looked back.

Carroll got a pair of solo shot homers from Yarnall and ApRoberts in the seventh inning, but the rally would fall short.

ApRoberts led Carroll with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate.

The Saints and Yellowjackets are scheduled for another doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 2 p.m.
