Box Score 4 HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints softball team went 4-2 at the NAIA SoCal Classic this weekend.
On Saturday, the Saints posted a 3-0 record: starting with 8-6 over Arizona Christian (RV), 9-1 against Saint Katherine and a 6-2 triumph against La Sierra. On Sunday, the Saints fell in a close one 4-3 to Antelope Valley.
"All in all a good weekend," Saints coach
Aaron Jackson said. "We got a good sense of where we are at and showed tremendous faith this weekend. We were gritty and never felt that we were outmatched. To come out 4-2 on the weekend with two Top 30 wins is a great start. Offensively I feel that we were pretty locked in and the defense will continue to improve. In the circle, we had some great outings and it is going to be fun to see this staff take shape."
Game 3 vs. Arizona Christian: The Saints used a five-run fifth inning to rally and then hold off ACU.
Jessica Nimmo led the offense with a 3-for-3 outing in the box with 3 RBI and a home run.
Anna Davidson,
Anna ApRoberts and
Brooke Yarnall each contributed two more hits. Ali Williams was on the mound and allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out two.
Game 4 vs. Saint Katherine: The Saints claimed a 9-1 win over Saint Katherine thanks to multi-RBI efforts from Ali Williams (3) and
Courtney Schroeder (2).
Amber Brewer,
Kendall Mooney, and Whitey Durocher each added another RBI.
Abby Hanley pitched for the Saints and threw five innings, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out four.
Game 5 vs. La Sierra: The Saints took down La Sierra 6-2, grabbing a lead in the second inning, padding it in the fourth and then playing good defense.
Haylee Curry hit a home run and brought in 3 RBI to lead the Saints.
Megan McCormick and
Anna ApRoberts each had a pair of hits.
Game 6 vs. University of Antelope Valley: The Saints got two hits from
Brooke Yarnall,
Amber Brewer and
Natalie Gaber, but couldn't complete a rally in the final two innings to overtake UAV. Ali Williams threw seven innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out three.
The Saints hop into Cascade Collegiate Conference play next against College of Idaho on February 21 in Caldwell, Idaho .
