HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints softball team defeated Warner Pacific in a doubleheader on Saturday at Centennial Park, giving the Saints a 2-1 margin in the conference series and a 3-1 record overall against the Knights.
"Today was a great day," Saints coach
Aaron Jackson said. "Our bats came alive and we shored up some things on defense. When you can win a CCC series it is always a good weekend. Facing some adverse weather conditions, our team fought and stayed in it."
Carroll (8-5, 4-3 Cascade Collegiate Conference) won the first game 8-0 in six innings, before rallying in the second game and then holding off a rally to win 7-6.
Game 3
The Saints grabbed a lead in the third inning when
Jessica Nimmo hit two RBI single.
The Saints piled on in the fifth inning when Nimmo singled again to bring in another runner.
Kendall Mooney brought two more home on her double and
Anna Davidson capped the scoring spree off with a RBI double.
The Saints closed the game out in the six after Mooney doubled to score two more runs.
The Saints piled up 15 hits.
Amber Brewer finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Mooney went 3-for-4 with four RBI and Nimmo went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.
Ali Williams threw five strikeouts and gave up just one hit on the day.
Game 4
Warner Pacific charged in front of the Saints twice, but Carroll rallied twice and then held off the Knights to hold on for a sweep on the day.
Emma Foster singled to score the first run of the game in the first inning, but the Saints responded in the bottom of the inning.
Nimmo singled and then a fielding error allowed for
Michaela Fetzer to score.
Fetzer gave the Saints the lead in the second, hitting an RBI double.
Warner Pacific reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning when Grace Utto-Galarneau hit a two-RBI single.
Carroll re-seized the lead in the sixth inning with a flurry.
Kendall Mooney hit a two-run homer.
Anna ApRoberts then hit a RBI double.
Amber Brewer added to the scoring with a two-run homer of her own.
With a 7-2 lead, all the Saints had to do was hold on. Warner Pacific found three runs in the seventh, but a strike out from
Abby Hanley sealed the game.
Fetzer,
Natalie Gaber, Nimmo and Mooney each recorded two hits as the Saints totaled 14.
The Saints are next scheduled to face Montana State Billings on Monday in Billings.
