HELENA, Mont -- The Fighting Saints look to bounce back after a tough loss to Montana State Billings as they head to Spokane, Washington, this weekend. The Saints will take on Whitworth University and Whitman College on their two-game road trip.
Whitman currently has a record of 0-2-0. On a road trip to Virginia, the Blues fell 1-0 to Kean University and 3-1 to Christopher Newport University. Adam Reid scored Whitman's only goal of the road trip.
Whitworth has started the season off strong with back-to-back 2-1 wins against Chapman University and University of Redlands. Whitworth appears to have multiple scoring threats as their first four goals of the season all came from four different players.
Carroll also has multiple scoring threats in
Pablo Salamanca,
Jeronimo Lago Huerta,
Jack Bentson, and
Rory Bloy, each of whom have scored a goal in Carroll's first two games this season. Carroll and Whitworth met last year and the Saints came out on top with a score of 1-0.
The Saints (0-1-1) will be looking to break into the win column this weekend. After an inspiring rally to tie Montana State Billings, the Saints fell short in overtime. Prior to that, the Saints tied Lethbridge 2-2. Now with a roster nearing full strength and developing chemistry together on the field, it feels like it's just a matter of time before the Saints string victories together.
Fighting Saints head coach,
Doug Mello is looking forward to the weekend.
"We are ready to get the taste of a bad loss out of our mouth," Mello said. "We have been preparing hard all week. Whitworth and Whitman are both top level D-III programs… but we want to get a couple wins under our belt to propel us into our conference games."
Friday's contest against Whitworth begins at 1 p.m. and be
streamed via Whitworth's Stretch Internet portal.
