Carroll men's soccer hands OIT first loss of season, 2-0

HELENA, Mont. -- The Fighting Saints bounced back on Saturday after their 2-1 loss to Southern Oregon by beating a previously undefeated Oregon Tech, 2-0, in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

"Today, we had that special match you need to beat some good teams," Saints coach Doug Mello said.

Just 13 minutes into the game the Saints' star freshman, Rory Bloy, scored off an assist from junior Paolo Georgiades. Bloy has now scored four goals on the season and continues to impress.

"It was nice that Rory opened the scoring for us on a nice ball from Paolo," Mello said. "He just smashed it. He's got a hard rocket of a shot and put the ball away."

Carroll would finish out the first half strong with three more shots. In the second half the Saints would look to be more aggressive offensively while focusing on Oregon Tech's Anthony Santillan who had three shots in the first half as well as a shot on goal.

"Our defensive line held tight and outside backs Cam Martin and Javi Rodriguez had some fast players that did a very good job of containing them," Mello said. "Melle was in goal for us as a collegiate player it was his first shutout. He had some clutch saves down the stretch."

Thanks to Freshman goalkeeper Melle de Reuver who had four saves on the game, Carroll was able to finish out the game strong holding off any goals from Oregon Tech. In the 85th minute, Carroll sophomore Santiago Morazzani scored the second goal of the game off another assist from Georgiades.

"Santi probably played the best game in a uniform that I've seen in my six years at Carroll," Mello said. "He just dominated play. He won multiple balls in the air, delivered pinpoint passing and then scored the game-clincher with five-minutes left on a great pass from Paolo. He and Nick Lowrimore took the game on their shoulders and made so many good things happen for us."

With this road win the Fighting Saints improved to 4-3-1 on the season and give Oregon Tech its first loss of the season putting their record at 5-1-2. The Saints get the split on their two-game road trip and will start preparing for Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho next weekend.

"A win like this away gives the team confidence that we can repeat this in future endeavors," Mello said.
