HELENA, Mont. -- Kayla Welch kept her hot start to the season alive, finishing a cross from
Charly Clements to give the Saints a 1-0 victory over Black Hills State on Saturday in Billings at the Rimrock Classic.
For the weekend, the Saints (3-1-1) earned a draw against MSU Billings and a victory over BHSU, both NCAA D-II teams.Â
"I think the big thing is we came away with two clean sheets against two Division II teams," Saints coach Dave Thorvilson said. "Defense is playing really well and that should set su up for conference play."Â
Welch struck in the 29th minute and the Saints' defense held the Yellowjackets of BHSU scoreless.
Katie Martin was also credited with an assist on the play.Â
Carroll outshot Black Hills State 28-5.
