HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints men's soccer will take on Montana State University Billings (MSUB) on Friday at 4 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
The game will be a welcome contest for the Saints, who, after nursing a few injuries and waiting for players to become eligible, have yet to play with their entire roster this season.
"We are finally playing with our full squad," Saints coach
Doug Mello said. "We pretty much have a healthy squad and an eligible squad. We're quite excited to get everybody on the field. I think it will take a little time to get in the flow, although they've practiced well."
Carroll's record is currently 0-0-1 after tying 2-2 in their first home game of the season against the University of Lethbridge. In that game,
Pablo Salamanca (junior) and
Jeronimo Lago Huerta (freshman) were the two goal scorers for the Saints. The Saints also took down Gillette Community College 1-0 this season in an exhibition game with
Pablo Salamanca scoring in that game as well.
MSUB also has a current record of 0-0-1 after tying 1-1 with another Cascade Collegiate Conference team, Rocky Mountain College. Noah Runsvold (junior) is the lone goal scorer this season for the Yellowjackets. MSUB is returning 6 starters as well as two GNAC Honorable Mention players in Luca Battistotti (junior), and Samuele Folla (senior).
"MSUB is always a pretty good squad," Mello said. "They're usually in the top third and will pose some problems for us. Both teams haven't played many games and it will be a bit of a crapshoot to see who pulls out on top. The guys are excited about playing at home now that school has started."
The last time the two teams met was back in 2016 where Carroll put on a dominant performance beating MSUB 4-1.
