HELENA, Mont. -- A fourth five-set match is the charm for the Carroll College Fighting Saints volleyball team.
After trailing 2-0, the Saints (1-2) pushed Northwest University to a fifth set -- the fourth time in as many days the Saints have played in a fifth set. This time, the Saints broke through, claiming the match with a 15-11 final game in their second game of the day at the Big Sky Challenge.
Northwest took the opening two games 25-17 and 26-24. With their backs against the wall, the Saints clawed back into it.
The Saints controlled the third and fourth games, winning 25-16 in each.
Taelyr Krantz and
Katherine McEuen combined for 26 kills to power the Saints at the net.
Hannah Dean was a force at the net with 10 blocks.
It was the Saints' first match victory this season. Earlier in the day, Carroll battled No. 12 College of Idaho to a tight five-set match, but ultimately fell in the final game.
Dean and McEuen combined for 24 kills in that game, but it ultimately wasn't enough.
Carroll finishes the Big Sky Challenge on Saturday against Olivet Nazarene. The match will be played at 11 a.m. and
