Carroll takes doubleheader against Providence

HELENA, Mont. -- Carroll College's softball team wrapped up its series against Providence by claiming Saturday's doubleheader with a pair of wins in Great Falls.

Carroll (19-22, 11-15 Cascade Collegiate Conference) defeated Providence 9-6 and 6-5 on Saturday.

The Saints took the first game after surging to a 6-0 lead in the third inning. Anna ApRoberts hit a two RBI double, Kendall Mooney grounded out for a RBI and Tianna Sell smacked a three-run homer to push the Saints far ahead.

UP responded with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to turn the game into a 6-4 affair.

Carroll padded its lead in the seventh inning when ApRoberts struck again on a RBI single. Amber Brewer followed that up with a RBI single and then Sell reached on a fielder's choice, RBI.

ApRoberts went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Sell had 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Williams got the win on the mound, allowing 12 hits and six earned runs while striking out seven.

Carroll won the second game 6-5 after rallying from down 4-1 after the third inning.

Courtney Shroeder got it started with a fielder's choice RBI.

Providence added one more run back in the fourth, but the sixth inning would be pivotal for the Saints.

ApRoberts hit a RBI single in the sixth and then Brewer hit a three RBI double to push the Saints ahead 6-5.

Brooke Brown got the win on the mound in Game Two, throwing seven innings while giving up six hits, two earned runs and striking out seven and walking one.
