HELENA, Mont, -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints softball team held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning, then battled College of Idaho 1-1 until the eighth inning when the 'Yotes hit a three-run home run to pull out a 4-1 win in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament in Ashland, Oregon, on Saturday.Â
The loss ended the Saints' (19-24) season. It was the second time at the 2019 tournament Carroll had fallen in the double-elimination format. Carroll lost 4-2 to Corban on Friday. This was Carroll's third appearance in the CCC tournament in the last four seasons.Â
Megan McCormick doubled in the second inning to bring a run in and give the Saints a 1-0 lead.Â
COI tied in the game in the fourth inning when Taylor Eakle grounded out to score a run.Â
It was Aleah Mendiola's home run in the eighth inning that proved to be the difference.Â
Carroll and COI battled evenly throughout the game, as each side recorded five hits.Â

Tianna Sell powered the Saints' offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Junior Ali Williams went 0-for-2, but drew a pair of walks to get on base.Â

Tess Eaton kept the Saints in it, throwing all eight innings while allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six and walking six.Â
COI used two pitchers, with the win going to reliever Colette Robert (20-5), who entered in the seventh inning and recorded three strikeouts.Â
